The two week OSJ portraiture workshop will be held at the Buhlebuzile School in Thokoza led by South African photographer Alice Mann from 11 - 24 Oct 2021..

With the aim to help Of Soul and Joy Students to develop bodies of work by exploring hidden histories and narratives embedded in street history.

During this period learners will choose their own relevant theme and objectives of the project will be met through mentorship, curatorial input and weekly photographic workshops.

As part of PhotoSaintGermain, Rubis Mécénat presents Daleside, a commission to French photographer Cyprien Clément-Delmas and South African photographer Lindokuhle Sobekwa, a member of the Of Soul and Joy project and a Magnum Photos Associate. The photographic commission initiated by Rubis Mécénat in 2015 documents Daleside, an Afrikaner suburb located south-east of Johannesburg in South Africa.

Following the quarantine measures and school closure in South Africa, Of Soul and Joy, a learning platform for photography located in the township of Thokoza, in the South-East of Johannesburg, paused its activities. In order to stay in touch with the young photographers and to pursue their artistic training, project manager Jabulani Dhlamini asked them to realise a home-based photographic series to reflect on their experience and feeling visually of the sanitary crisis.

On the occasion of the ICTAF 2020, Of Soul and Joy presents a selection of the current body of works by photographers Sibusiso Bheka, Thembinkosi Hlatshawyo and Lunathi Mngxuma
