OSJ presents a two week long portrait workshop led by South African photographer Alice Mann held at the Buhlebuzile School in Thokoza.

“Since 2017, South African photographer Alice Mann has been documenting the unique culture of female drum majorettes. Also known as ‘Drummies’, these aspirational teams break boundaries and carve out a unique identity and culture for themselves.” - @darwin__studio

Alice Mann is a South African photographic artist based in London who’s intimate portraiture essays explore notions of picture making as an act of collaboration. Alice’s notable works include her “Drummies” series, which captures female drum majorette teams in Mann’s home country. The series won multiple awards, including the LensCulture Emerging Talent Prize and the PHmuseum Women’s New Generation Prize. Mann has exhibited in Los Angeles, New York, Marrakech, and London.
