OSJ Project Manager

Dhlamini (b. 1983, Free State, South Africa) lives and works in Johannesburg. His work focuses on his upbringing while also reflecting on various communities within contemporary South Africa. Dhlamini’s approach is meditative and subtly provokes a closer look at what lies on the edges by exploring personal and collective memory. Incorporating landscape imagery and intimate portraits, his work captures historical moments - such as the recollection of the Sharpeville Massacre, the effects of land dispossession and the funeral of anti-apartheid activist Winnie Madikizela-Mandela - while also documenting the quieter moments in the lives of everyday South Africans.

Dhlamini’s recent group exhibitions include Inganekwane, North West University Gallery, South Africa (2022); iHubo – Whispers, PhotoSaintGermain festival, France (2022); Side to Side Johannesburg, La Permanence Photographique, France (2022); and A Different Now is Close Enough to Exhale on You, Umhlabathi Collective Gallery, South Africa (2022); as well as a solo exhibition at Mitre Gallery, Brazil titled Casa/iKhaya Lami (2023).

Dhlamini is an alumni fellow of the Edward Ruiz Mentorship programme and the Market Photo Workshop in Johannesburg, where he is currently based.

OSJ Media Manager

Daniels (born 1993) is a non-binary photographer and Market Photo Workshop Alumni living and working in Johannesburg. They have extensive experience and knowledge within the visual arts scene, both local and International, within the curatorial and project management field and working alongside very well-known curators and visual arts professionals.

Daniels managed and coordinated various projects including; African LGBTQI+ Migration Research Network (2022), The Ungovernable - Common Life Project (2021), TAF Unearthed Mentorship (2021), The electronic newsletter for Centers of Learning for Photography in Africa (CLPA), democraSEE - an award for Southern African Photography, the Survey and interactive digital map for Photography Training and Learning Initiatives on the African continent

And exhibitions: ‘Five Photographers: A tribute to David Goldblatt’ (Johannesburg, Maputo, Lesotho, Makhanda, Durban and Mali; 2018-2019), Kerkennah01 (Tunisia, 2018), Resist(e) (France, 2017), Cities and Memory (Denmark 2016), and assisted with the coordination for Tierney Fellowship ‘Against Time’ – A group exhibition as part of the Bamako Biennale in Mali, 2015.

OSJ Trainer

Zwelibanzi (born in 1987) is a South African photographer. He studied at Market Photo Workshop (2008-2011) and is the sixth recipient of Edward Ruiz Mentorship. His body of work, Still Existence, was part of the 9th Rencontres de Bamako, the African Biennial in Mali in 2011. Zwelibanzi’s solo exhibition has been shown at Market Photo Workshop Gallery and at Bailey Seippel Gallery in Johannesburg. He has participated in a number of group exhibitions in his home country and abroad.

His work has been focusing on issues and concepts around power, empowerment and transformation, their impact in relation to the contemporary world we live in and how photography can be used in developing public, private and civil societies.

OSJ Assistant

Born in 1997, lives and works in Thokoza, South Africa. Bheka studied photography at OSJ in 2012. HIs work documents his environment by night, giving us a glimpse of the reality of Thokoza, his playful moments almost surreal just before light disappears. A testimony to South Africa’s violent past as well as a celebration of the intense beauty that can be found in the details of daily life in a township.
